About her:

Ph.D. in Physiological Sciences from National Autonomous University of Mexico (U.N.A.M.) at Biomedical Research Institute, M.Sc. in Physiological Sciences and B.Sc. in Biology from the same university. She has done several long research stays at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (USA), postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center (USA), visiting scientist at the Karolinska Institute (Medical University, Sweden) and at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry (Germany). She has more than 30 years of experience in the public sector, as a researcher in the field of health, with a focus on neurosciences. In particular, her field of study is in basic and clinical research in neurodegenerative diseases and psychiatric disorders. Thus, in preclinical models of the aforementioned diseases, she studies the mechanisms of cell damage to find novel drugs with potential use in humans. In the clinical field, she studies the development of genetic markers in our population, for timely diagnosis and treatment follow-up in the field of neurosciences. She belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNII) level 2, with more than 55 scientific articles published in indexed journals. She has obtained several external financial grants as principal investigator in the health area. Human resources trainer as director of PhD, Master’s, Medical Specialty and Bachelor’s theses of the National Polytechnic Institute (I.P.N.) and U.N.A.M. mainly. Her experience in teaching at national and international level is as professor at undergraduate and graduate level at the I.P.N., Professor of the Theoretical-Practical Course of Human Genetics and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at undergraduate and doctoral level at the University of North Dakota (U.S.A.). She has obtained several distinctions such as the International Award for Training in Scientific Research granted by the Organization of American States (1993), National Award for the best scientific article granted by the Federal Health Ministry of Mexico (2007), Award of Excellence in Neurosciences granted by the Mexican Society of Neurology and Psychiatry (2022), among others. The relevance of her research findings, among others, have earned her the cover of the journals Molecular Psychiatry (2007, volume 12, number 8), Neurotoxicology (1996, volume 17, number 2).
